North American AfH manufacturer ST Group has acquired Cascades’ recycled paper mill in Barnwell County.
The acquisition was completed through ST Group’s newly formed subsidiary, Barnwell Tissue Solutions.
The Barnwell mill includes a Valmet-supplied hybrid QRT/DCT tissue machine, installed in 2016, with an annual capacity of 30,000tpy.
It is ST Group’s third tissue facility and brings the company’s total capacity to 220,000tpy.
Ron Thiry, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at ST Paper and ST Tissue, told TWM: “It is our company philosophy to stay ahead of our customers’ demand so that we are in a position to support their growth ambitions.
“The Barnwell mill provides us with an opportunity to service customers in a relatively short timeline.
“We are excited to support our customers and bring high quality jobs back into the Barnwell community.”
He added that the plan is to concentrate on parent roll production at the Barnwell mill.
“Our primary focus is to bring the existing assets online in a timely manner,” he said.
“However, as we studied the Barnwell site, we did evaluate the potential of further expansion down the road.”
ST Group was founded in 2007 with the acquisition of its first mill in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin.
It also has mills in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin, and one in Franklin, Virginia.
